Ross County boss John Hughes has called on his players to be more streetwise in their battle to avoid relegation. The Dingwall club lost 2-1 to Motherwell in their last league game, a game in which they had led 1-0.
The defeat saw Motherwell go above Ross County in the Premiership table, with Hughes’ side now only a point ahead of bottom of the table Hamilton, who have two games in hand. The teams meet on Wednesday in a game which will have major ramifications at the bottom of the table.
Whilst Hughes can’t fault the effort of his players, he feels that becoming more streetwise and savvy could help the team pickup the required points.
“Plenty of spirit”
“I think there’s plenty of spirit in them (the players). I said that even when we were getting good results. They are a good, honest, hard-working bunch of boys. We just need to stick together and keep working hard. Fundamentally, we just need to be a little bit better. A little bit more streetwise” he said.

Hughes also hopes that his players are ready to embrace the challenge of the battle for Premiership survival.
“Embrace that”
“Everybody will have a part to play to keep this club in the SPL. It’s going to be difficult, but you need to embrace that. That’s the challenge. I’m hoping that comes down to character, I’m hoping the boys are up for it.

“We’ve got the opportunity to go and do something about it. It’s not going to be easy. But we need to dig in, we need to be just a wee bit more streetwise, in how to see a game out and how to defend better” he said.
