Former Hearts coach Austin MacPhee has been praised as ‘the best in the business’ by John McGinn after arriving at Aston Villa.
The former Hearts assistant coach has joined Aston Villa as a specialist set-piece coach. MacPhee left Hearts in 2020 in the wake of his spell as interim manager and Craig Levein’s departure in 2019. McGinn worked with MacPhee at St Mirren and believes it’s a great appointment for the English Premier League club.

He said (Villa TV): “It’s added a new dimension to the club, another Scotsman in. Ever since Hutts (Alan Hutton) left there’s been a void missing. I worked with Austin at St Mirren, he was video analyst at the time, many years ago.
“He’s had a really successful career since then and he’s one of the best in the business analysis wise.
“As a club we’re trying to do everything right and if we want to progress the way we are a set-piece coach is important and hopefully we can add to an area which, overall, we have struggled on. Austin’s the best in the business and hopefully we can thrive this season in that area.”
