There’s a boost for Aston Villa and Scotland fans as a report claims that John McGinn’s return date from injury has been set.
According to the report, (Scottish Daily Mail, page 71, 11/02/20) McGinn has been put down to feature for Villa against Newcastle on March 21st. It’s five days before Scotland’s Euro 2020 play-off match with Israel.
The battler hasn’t featured since damaging his ankle in a 3-1 Villa defeat to Southampton.
Aston Villa date a boost for Clarke
It is claimed that McGinn is making good progress with his recovery. That being said, he is likely to miss a day at Wembley as Aston Villa take on Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final.
His return will follow shortly after that though on March 21st. It would be a huge boost for Scotland to have the midfielder available for the Israel clash, having scored seven in his last six Scots outings.
Upon his return, McGinn will help Villa fight for Premier League survival. They currently sit a point above the relegation zone in 17th.
For Steve Clarke, having the Premier League battle available for selection next month would aid Scotland’s attempt to return to tournament football for the first time since 1998.
