St Mirren striker Jon Obika feels that the club not being in a relegation battle is allowing the team to play with more freedom. As it stands, the Paisley club is 10 points ahead of last placed Hamilton, and is currently in sixth place in the Premiership.
That is different compared to last season. St Mirren just avoided the drop, finishing six points ahead of relegated Hearts. Obika is enjoying the football being played at the club at the moment.
“Not getting carried away”
“If you see last season, it felt like it was always crucial. But now we feel we can play with a bit more freedom going into the games, knowing that we can look at the teams above also. We’re not getting carried away. But we know that with the wins on board how high up the table we can finish” he said.

Even though St Mirren currently trail fifth placed Livingston in the league by 10 points, they do have two games in hand.
Hoping to finish high up the table
As a result, the striker has not given up hope that St Mirren can overtake Livingston. Finishing as high up the table as possible seems to be a goal for Obika.

“I think it helps when you see the table, and you see that you’re sixth in the table, and you can catch the teams above. That helps for a player, because you go into a game thinking ‘three points and the table could look even better’. For all of us we are looking forward to every game, and trying our best for every game for sure” Obika continued.
