Striker Jonathan Afolabi says Dundee fans should expect goals after his move from Celtic in the transfer window.

Afolabi joined Celtic last summer after a spell at Southampton. He hasn’t made his way into the Parkhead senior setup as of yet, joining Dunfermline on loan in the second half of last term.

He returned to Celtic in the summer but again minutes have been limited. To aid his development, he has joined Dundee on loan for the Championship season ahead.

A league debut was had away to Hearts but it wasn’t the start either Afolabi or Dundee were after, losing 6-2 to Hearts at Tynecastle. They’ll hope for a response this weekend at home to Greenock Morton.

Celtic prospect Afolabi has described what the Dens Park faithful can expect from him: “My first aim will be to get as many goals as possible, that’s my main job as a striker.

“Other than that I like to not give defenders a moment’s peace. I like chasing things down and being a target man for the team, being an out ball, so you’ll see me moving about up there.

“If I don’t start the game I’ll always give 100% for the team. It was a bit of a shame in the situation I came on but the main task was just to run as much as I can and work for the team.

“For this week I’ve just worked hard in training and see what happens at the weekend. If I start I want to take the chance with both hands.

“It’s been good so far. We got off to a bit of a slow start but I’m sure if we play to our best we can turn things around. It was a tough game to start off with, probably the toughest one we will come up against on paper.

“We had a slow start to the game conceding so early but after half time it was a little bit of an improvement but it still didn’t change the fact we lost the game so the main thing is to get our heads down and work hard for the game at the weekend.”
