Jonathan Obika has signed for English League One side Morecambe as the Tottenham Hotspur academy graduate returns to England after his St Mirren spell.
The striker became a cult hero in Paisley over two seasons with the cinch Premiership club. He scored 20 goals in 77 matches, including a winning goal on what turned out to be the final day of the 2019/20 season against Hearts, keeping St Mirren in the league. Obika started his career with Tottenham Hotspur and played a handful of times for Spurs.
He has since established himself as a regular in the English Football League and the Tottenham Hotspur youth product moves south of the border again with Morecambe. Managed by former Motherwell boss Stephen Robinson, the Northern Irishman says he tried to sign Obika while at Fir Park.
Robinson said: “I know Jon well and he is someone I tried to sign when I was at Motherwell. He has done really well at St Mirren and was really popular with the fans. He is a great character who has scored goals in League One before and will give us more strength in the forward line and competition for places.”
