Junior Hoilett has addressed Hibs fans’ frustrations after their latest defeat to Motherwell.

It has been a slow start to the season for the Hibees under new manager David Gray and they sit tenth in the Premiership with just five points from seven games.

Losing to the Steelmen on Saturday was the latest disappointment with ex-Hearts midfielder Andy Halliday scoring a late winner shortly after home midfielder Nectarios Triantis was sent off for a second booking. Hoilett had earlier equalised, cancelling out Apostolos Stamatelopoulos’ opener.

Hoilett’s message to frustrated Hibs fans

It was a fourth league defeat of the season for the Easter Road side and the club and their fans would expect to be doing much better.

The support were not slow to make the clear during Saturday’s game with moans and groans evident from the stands.

The goalscorer has now addressed that, explaining the players are just as exasperated with how things are going and insisting they need the fans to stay on side.

He said: “It’s not only the fans who are frustrated, but us as well. When we go out and play like that, and dominate games – on any other day we could have hit three or four.

“So I can feel the fans’ frustration, especially at home not getting the results when we dominated a game and we should have really gone out and won. I understand their frustration.

“But we need them to play a role for us as well to stay on our side and be that extra support – that 12th man to get us through games like this. For me, my message to them is to remain on our side and keep encouraging the boys to push on.”

Hibs’ fixtures

It doesn’t get much easier for Hibs after the international break with their next two games being an away trop to in-form Dundee United and then an Edinburgh derby at home to Hearts.

That said, there is an opportunity to pick up points as they don’t face either half of the Old Firm until a clash with Celtic on December 7.

After hosting the Jambos, they will face Ross County, Dundee United again, St Mirren, Dundee, Aberdeen and Motherwell.
