Kevin Nisbet set for Scotland call-up after starting Aberdeen spell on fire

Kevin Nisbet is set for a Scotland call-up with the striker to join up with Aberdeen teammates Jack MacKenzie and Nicky Devlin.

The 27-year-old has 11 caps but hasn’t featured for the international team since a cameo against Georgia in June last year. Prior to that it was another brief cameo against Moldova in 2021.

Much of that has been down to injury struggles but his move to Millwall didn’t really go according to plan as he wasn’t always featuring when fit anyway and also incurred the wrath of manager Neil Harris over alleged disciplinary issues.

But Nisbet signed on loan for the Dons in the summer and has found his rhythm again in Jimmy Thelin’s high flying side, scoring three goals so far for the unbeaten Dandies.

Aberdeen star Nisbet set for Scotland recall

As a result, the former Hibs and Dunfermline man is poised for a Scotland comeback, according to the Daily Record.

It is claimed Hearts star Lawrence Shankland has a hamstring issue and will miss out, with Nisbet set to be his replacement.

He will join up with fellow Aberdeen stars Nicky Devlin, who was in the original squad, and left-back Jack MacKenzie, who was called up this week.

A return to the international fold was said to be a key motivation for his return to the Scottish Premiership and this will be seen as just reward for his efforts.

Aberdeen move breathes new life into Nisbet

Things just didn’t click for Nisbet at Millwall, with injury playing his part. But even when fit, he only managed five goals in 30 appearances with the Lions not getting return on their investment.

He wanted the move north to kickstart his career again and get back into favour with Steve Clarke, and it has clearly worked so far.

The 27-year-old already has three goals, two in the league and one in the league cup with the Dons in the semi-final. With Pape Gueye out injured, he will be expected to keep spearheading the attack.
