Kilmarnock boss Angelo Alessio has attempted to throw cold water on the rumours linking Greg Taylor to Celtic, saying the left-back missed Saturday’s clash with Aberdeen due to a hamstring problem.

Alessio earned his first domestic points against the Dons, drawing 0-0 with Derek McInnes’ side. New signing Niko Hamalainen deputised for the absent Taylor.

The Italian is adamant that Taylor only missed the Dons clash due to injury and no offer has been made by the Glasgow club.

He told the Scottish Sun: “Yesterday (Friday) after the warm-up there was a wee problem with the hamstring. At the moment it’s only rumours. I don’t think the club has received any offers from Celtic.

“We have spoken to the club and the owner and we want to keep our best players.”

Will Alessio be made to look foolish after his recent Taylor comments

Even if it is just an injury, some Kilmarnock fans may worry whether they’ve seen the last of Taylor in a Killie shirt.

A recent Evening Times report has claimed that a Celtic deal for Taylor will be completed ‘over the next few days’. They will pay Killie a fee close to £3m for his services.

Having played 131 times for the Rugby Park club (Transfermarkt), Taylor will be a massive loss. At the age of just 21, he represents great potential.

If the reported figure is anywhere close to £3 million like it says it is, then Killie have no choice really but to sell. For a club of their size, they can’t afford to turn down such a big fee.

That won’t making losing him any easier. Kilmarnock have lost many heroes over the summer, including manager Steve Clarke, Jordan Jones, Kris Boyd, Youssouf Mulumbu and Daniel Bachmann to name a few.

Alessio has seemingly denied that there has been any contact from Celtic over Taylor, but reports suggest otherwise. He could be made to look a bit foolish within the next week.
