Kilmarnock have confirmed Angelo Alessio’s appointment as their new manager on their official Twitter account – and Killie fans have been blown away by the news.

The Italian replaces Steve Clarke and arrives in Ayrshire with a fantastic CV after working with Antonio Conte at Juventus, Chelsea and the Italian national team.

Alessio will be assisted by Clarke’s number two at Rugby Park, Alex Dyer, and will get down to work immediately with pre-season due to start this week.

The 54-year-old Italian managed SPAL, Imolese and Massese before linking up with Conte in 2010 at Siena.

“It is a real honour for me to be named Kilmarnock manager,” Angelo said, as quoted by the BBC.

“I’ve spent a lot of time researching and gathering information about the club and everyone I spoke to had nothing but positive things to say about Kilmarnock.

During his time alongside Conte, Alessio won three Serie A titles and a Premier League title as well as being part of Conte’s coaching staff at Euro 2016.

After finishing third in the league last season under Clarke, Kilmarnock will take part in this season’s Europa League with the first qualifying round kicking off on July 11th.

Killie fans are overjoyed with the appointment of the experienced Italian – with one fan saying they should ‘announce winning the league’ already.
