Kilmarnock’s underwhelming season has just been dealt a significant double blow with injuries to Kyle Vassell and Innes Cameron.

The Ayrshire side have so far failed to reach the heights of last season in the Premiership when boss Derek McInnes led them to 4th spot and European football.

Kilmarnock are currently 9th in the table as they moved level on points with Ross County after a 0-0 draw with Motherwell on Wednesday night.

Killie dominated the clash at a freezing Rugby Park but could not take their chances and had to make do with a point.

Kyle Vassell & Innes Cameron suffer long-term injuries

Just after the game, Kilmarnock delivered more frustrating news to fans as it was confirmed Vassell and Cameron are facing two months each on the sidelines.

The pair went for scans and the extent of their injuries were revealed, meaning Kilmarnock are going to be left short of attacking options unless they recruit before the January transfer deadline.

McInnes on Kilmarnock’s current injuries

Providing more details on the duo’s injuries, McInnes said after the Motherwell draw: “Listen, Vass is a blow and Innes is a blow because he’s actually been doing so well of late.

Vassell will be out for a couple of months with a ligament tear and Innes is out for two months with a hamstring tear.

“Our most creative player, Matty Kennedy, started the season like a train. Hopefully he’ll be back in the next week or two. He goes for a further injection on his back on Friday.

“It’s frustrating that we’ve not had Matty back before now and I wouldn’t mind giving him the injection myself if I’m honest!

“He’s far more positive with it. He’s had a good discussion with the surgeon and he’s going the right way. I think he’ll be back in time for the Hearts game.

“And we still obviously have Stuart Findlay out who is a bit further away so the month of January allows us to deal with certain injury situations.”
