Kris Boyd noticed something at Easter Road during Hibs vs Aberdeen he thinks is a ‘worry’

There was plenty of noise emanating from Easter Road last night when a flurry a stoppage time goals made for a dramatic end to Hibs vs Aberdeen.

Both the Hibees and Dons fans in attendance had moments to celebrate wildly over as the Premiership clash ultimately ended in a 3-3 draw.

But despite the frenetic atmosphere inside the ground towards the end of arguably the most exhilarating game of the season so far, Sky Sports pundit Kris Boyd was concerned by the lack of Hibs supporters attending.

The former Kilmarnock striker tuned into the clash in Leith and credited Hibs for snatching a late draw after falling 3-2 behind.

But he said the most worrying takeaway for him was the sparse home crowd and feels it says a lot about what the fans think of the club’s on and off-field issues at the moment.

Boyd concerned by sparse Hibs crowd vs Aberdeen

Speaking live on Sky Sports News, Boyd said: “I look at Hibs and I don’t even know what is going on. They’ve got to take confidence from coming back to get a draw last night but some of the goals they lose, they’re just so easy and cheap.

“The worry for me is the crowd at Easter Road last night, having watched the game, it was low and not a lot of people there.

“I know it’s midweek, I understand that, and it’s cold up here right now. But against Aberdeen, it’s a big game in Scotland. But the Hibs fans, they are starting to stay away and that says a lot.

“You look at where they’ve been and all we heard was on-field success would help the club. There’s been nothing for a number of years.

“Yes, they might have good infrastructure like the stadium, training ground and all the new hospitality lounges. But again, if you’re not getting results on the pitch, there’s problems and that’s the way the fans see it right now as well.

“Fair play to them last night, they found themselves behind but managed to find a way back and level through Rocky Bushiri’s goal right at the end.

“For me, you want all the big clubs in Scotland to do well so hopefully Hibs can pick up.”

Hibs fans let their feelings known to board

Many Hibs fans have turned against the club’s board, particularly the CEO Ben Kensell and sporting director Malky Mackay.

And ultras section housed in the Famous Five Stand unfurled a banner simply reading ‘SACK THE BOARD’ as the relationship between fans and club hierarchy continues to sour.

Hibs have had six permanent managers since November 2019 and the instability in that regard has become too much to bear for disgruntled fans.

The club remain rock bottom of the Premiership table and haven’t won a game since September, a winless run stretching back nine matches.
