St Johnstone’s Liam Gordon believes that the Perth club can become the first team to defeat Rangers in the Premiership this season.

The teams meet on Wednesday at McDiarmid Park. The Saints will be looking to bounce back from the weekend 3-2 loss to St Mirren.

Take inspiration from recent result

Gordon thinks that Rangers can be got at. He feels that Callum Davidson’s side can take inspiration from St Mirren’s recent win over the Ibrox club in the Betfred Cup.

“We know we are going to be up against it but look at what St Mirren did in the cup. That result shows Rangers aren’t invincible. They can be beaten” he said.

“We lost 3-0 at Ibrox at the start of the season, but we created chances to make it closer. It didn’t feel like a 3-0 game. We definitely believe we can get something from this game” he concluded.

Must improve on aspect of game

For St Johnstone to get something out of the game they will have to improve on their defending. The Perth side weren’t at their best at the back in the weekend’s loss to St Mirren.

However, St Johnstone can take some belief from the fact that they held Celtic to a draw this season. They drew 1-1 at Celtic Park a few weeks ago.

If they can repeat the commitment shown in that game then Gordon could be proven correct, and St Johnstone can achieve what would be a shock victory over the Ibrox side. However, they will likely need to improve on recent performances to achieve that goal.
