It has been reported by the Scottish Sun recently that St Johnstone want to bring Aberdeen striker Stevie May back to the club. Judging by the Perth side’s poor start to the season, it is easy to understand why.

The Saints have started off the season poorly. They lost their opening Betfred Cup group stage match 1-0 to League One side Montrose.

Already a must-win fixture

It won’t get any easier for St Johnstone in their next game, as they take on Ross County on Sunday. Already that game looks like a must-win fixture for Tommy Wright’s team.

Another loss could see them exit the competition at the group stage.

Their opening league game of the season looks hazardous too, a trip to Celtic Park.

That will be why they are so eager to May. He could galvanise a team that looks to be struggling. May was a hero at St Johnstone in his first spell at the club.

Can help team overcome poor start to the season

If he can recapture his first spell of form, he could help the Perth side overcome what looks to be a poor start to the season.

There is still plenty of time for St Johnstone to get back on track this season. The Premiership campaign hasn’t even started yet.

That being said, May would still be a good addition to the Saints, and they should look to get a deal done as soon as possible.
