Malky Mackay and Ben Kensell told they are ‘under as much pressure’ at Hibs as David Gray

Tam McManus thinks Hibs fans will be calling for Malky Mackay and Ben Kensell to leave the club if they decide to sack David Gray.

Gray is under pressure to deliver results as manager with Hibs currently occupying bottom spot in the Premiership after 11 games.

The Hibees face St Mirren at Easter Road on Saturday hoping to drag themselves away from danger but Gray’s job could be under serious threat if his side lose.

The decision to dismiss Gray would fall at the door of the Gordon family, owners of the club, chief executive Kensell and sporting director Mackay.

But McManus thinks the men above Gray at the club are just as vulnerable as far as fans are concerned in terms of their futures because at the end of the day, the hierarchy are responsible for hiring the managers.

Hibs have had four permanent gaffers since the sacking of Jack Ross at the end of 2021 and McManus thinks fans are getting fed up with the decision-makers in Leith.

Tam McManus warns Kensell and Mackay

Speaking on PLZ Soccer, McManus said: “Look, I think when you look at the Gordon family, Ben Kensell and the managers they’ve went through, the supporters are starting to look at them now.

“They are appointing the managers, you can’t keep blaming the managers. You look at some of the guys (former Hibs managers) who have went away and done well elsewhere.

“So I think Malky Mackay and Ben Kensell are under just as much pressure as David Gray because if they pull the trigger on David, there will be a lot of supporters saying, ‘you’ve got to go as well because you appointed him.’

“There’s a real apathy at Hibs amongst the supporters at the moment.”

Will David Gray get sack if Hibs lose to St Mirren?

McManus went on: “I’m just like every Hibs fan at the minute, I’m just scunnered with the team. Bottom of the league and it’s just been a disaster for the last two-and-a-half years ever since sacking Jack Ross.

“They’ve gone through four or five managers. They need to stick with a manager and be consistent on that but at the same time, he’s got to get results, you can’t just stick with the manager if you’re bottom of the league.

“So this is a big, big game for David Gray and Hibs – I feel as though I’m saying this every week. They need to start putting teams away, they are not scoring enough goals.

It’s unusual for a Hibs team, they usually score goals but are leaky at the other end. They’ve been pretty tight this season, they’ve not conceded that many.”
