A great weekend for Scott McTominay may be about to come to a bittersweet end as he picks up an injury following his Manchester United exploits.

It was a great Sunday afternoon for the Scotland star, who plays centre-back for Steve Clarke, as he inspired Manchester United to a rout of old rivals Leeds United at Old Trafford.

McTominay scored a three-minute brace at the start of the match before setting up Daniel James as Manchester United thrashed Leeds 6-2, triumphantly moving back into the Premier League’s top four.

Now they will play for a place in the Carabao Cup semi-final on Wednesday when they travel to face Everton. But it’s a trip that McTominay might miss out on.

He left the pitch at Old Trafford on Sunday holding his groin, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team reduced to 10 men for the final moments of the match. The Norwegian manager says he’s no idea whether it’s short or long-term.

“Scott, it seemed like a groin issue,” said Solskjaer. “I don’t know. Hopefully, it won’t be too long as he’s not had any muscle injuries before. But I don’t know how quickly he will recover.”
