St Johnstone have announced the signing of Manchester United talent Reece Devine on a season-long loan deal.

The move will be the left-back’s first taste of regular senior football, having played almost exclusively at youth level for Manchester United since his 2018 arrival. He featured in two EFL Trophy matches last season against Accrington Stanley and Morecambe.

Devine is St Johnstone manager Callum Davidson’s third signing of the summer transfer window after defensive duo James Brown and Hayden Muller. The 19-year-old says Europa League football with Saints was a big selling point behind the move, the cinch Premiership club coming off the back of a historic League Cup and Scottish Cup double.

He said: “That was an attraction, European qualifiers, it’s a great experience. So hopefully when we’re playing we can get through to the next stages and see (how far) we can get.”
