Manchester United left-back Reece Devine says the time is right for him to go out and experience first-team football with St Johnstone.

The teenager has never played at senior level with Manchester United but will join Callum Davidson’s St Johnstone for the 2021/22 cinch Premiership campaign. Devine will have the chance to play Europa League football, Saints set to begin that journey later this summer.

The full-back has watched teammates like Brandon Williams make their senior Manchester United debuts, but for him, the right choice was Saints (Saints TV): “It’s good to be here and I’m happy. Personally, I have been ready to make that next step and getting on loan. It’s good experience being in a first-team environment.

“A lot of my friends have broken into the first-team at Manchester United but the left-back pathway just now is stacked. For me, it’s good to come out on loan and get that senior experience. A big attraction was European qualifiers. They were big for me. This will be different from reserve football but I want to learn around a first-team.”
