Dundee United defender Mark Connolly has disclosed the comments from manager Robbie Neilson which sparked a revival against Partick Thistle.
The Tanandice side were losing 1-0 at half-time in the league game at Firhill. However, United came roaring back in the second-half to win 2-1 and maintain their 100% league record.
Connolly has revealed that Neilson’s comments were key to the comeback.
“What the gaffer said was simple”
“What the gaffer said was simple” Connolly said, as reported by the Courier.
“Do the simple things but just do them quicker. That’s what we did, and we got the win.”
Doing the simple things is working so far, in the league at least, for Dundee United. They have responded well to crashing out of the Betfred Cup with two league wins.
Attacker has been key to recent United victories
Of course, doing the ‘simple things’ helps when you have one of Scotland’s most lethal strikers in your side. Lawrence Shankland has scored five of United’s six goals so far this season.
That is obviously a good thing for United. However, they will soon need more players to be contributing with goals. That is why Neilson will be delighted that Peter Pawlett chipped in with the winning goal against Partick.
It has been a great start to United’s league season with wins over Inverness and Partick. They will not be getting carried away yet. However, at the very early stage of the season they look to favourites for promotion back to the Premiership.
