Aberdeen will move to end all speculation surrounding Sam Cosgrove by working out a new deal for the striker says McInnes.
There’s been plenty of interest in Cosgrove since he started motoring at the Dons last year. Most notably, Stoke have been linked with strong interest in the attacker (Scottish Sun).
McInnes has confirmed that a new contract is in the works but he admits that it isn’t over the line just yet.
He told the Evening Express: “We would like to extend Sam’s contract. Whether we can do it or not remains to be seen. But we’re hopeful that we can extend it.”
New contract should increase Cosgrove’s value
This will be good news for both Aberdeen and its supporters. According to the report, Stoke were asked for £4 million for Cosgrove but that will likely be higher, should he sign a new deal.
It isn’t over the line though so the likes of Stoke may still keep tabs on the forward. It’s no wonder teams such as the Potters are interested, as Cosgrove already has 18 goals this term.
He looks a certainty for 30 this season and could hit 20 before Christmas. He’ll have two chances to do so, with games against Hamilton and Celtic.
If they can get it over the line, Cosgrove will likely be a Don for many more years.
