Dundee United boss Micky Mellon has refused to discuss the club’s reported interest in Ross County striker Ross Stewart.

The Daily Record reported earlier this week that the Tannadice club were keen to sign the player on a pre-contract agreement, but faced competition from the likes of Aberdeen, and some Championship clubs in England.

However, Mellon won’t be drawn on United’s possible interest in the 24-year-old, but he did reveal that if the club felt a player was worth making a move for in January then the Tannadice club would try to make that happen.

“Ambition is to keep moving”

“If we feel there is a player out there who will make us better, I think the owner’s ambition is to keep moving Dundee United forward” he said (Daily Record).

“We are in tough times at the minute financially, but we have an unbelievably talented and fantastic academy. If there is a player out there who would interest us and make us better than I think we’d always have the discussion” Mellon mused.

Mellon believes that Dundee United wouldn’t be afraid to push the boat out if need be to sign a player that would make an improvement to the current squad.

“Might have to push the club”

“We would always have to shuffle things around to do what we need to do, but we will always be looking to improve. The recruitment is an ongoing thing and sometimes something just pops up, and you feel you might have to push the club on it” he concluded.

Perhaps Stewart will be the player that the Tannadice club will make a move for, only time will tell on that front.
