English Championship side Millwall are interested in signing Hibernian centre-back Ryan Porteous, the Daily Record reports.

The report discloses that the player is a signing option for Millwall, but as it stands it would take a ‘significant offer’ for Hibernian to consider selling the player.

Contract runs until 2023

The 21-year-old’s contract at Easter Road runs until 2023, so there is no rush for Hibernian to sell the player. You have to imagine that Jack Ross will be keen to keep the player at the club.

He is the type of player that the Easter Road club will want to build the team around for many years to come. Porteous has been a regular for Ross’ side this season.

He has played every single minute of Hibernian’s Premier League campaign so far this season. That highlights just how important he has been to the club. You would expect that run to continue when Hibernian take on Rangers on Wednesday night.

Could be watched in next league game

There might well be scouts watching Porteous in that game. However, you have to imagine that for numerous reasons Hibernian will be determined to keep Porteous.

Their chances of finishing third in the league would be greatly enhanced if he stays. There is also the issue of signing a replacement. With less than a week of the transfer window left open, Ross and Hibernian wouldn’t have a lot of time to sign Porteous’ replacement.

Another issue to consider is that the player might not be keen on a move to the Championship. He may prefer to stay at Hibernian. That remains to be seen. However, it seems that the Easter Road club are determined to keep such an important player.
