Motherwell have made two contract moves, securing Jake Caroll on a long-term deal while sorting a loan move for former Millwall striker Harry Smith.
The latter joins the Steelmen on loan until the end of the season from Northampton Town as Graham Alexander’s third signing of the window. He has scored 11 goals in 50 games for the Cobblers, also featuring for Millwall, Swindon Town and Macclesfield Town.
Manager Alexander is delighted to land the towering striker: “We’re all very happy to bring Harry on board. We need a squad with different attributes and skillsets, and Harry is a player who will fit in with our squad very well.
“I’m sure over the course of the rest of the season, he will make a significant contribution to our results. He comes here as a motivated player who can enhance our attacking options. We look forward to working with him.”
Meanwhile, left-back Carroll is staying put until 2023. He has battled back from an achilles injury that kept him out for 10 months, impressing in his four appearances so far this term.
Alexander says he will be a big player for the Steelmen in ‘coming seasons’: “We are delighted Jake has decided to continue his stay with us. He has shown since we came in that he is a key member of this squad.
“He’s demonstrated the quality, professionalism and motivation we want in our club to achieve the targets we have set. He is a big part of our plans and we are glad to have him signed up for the coming seasons.”
