Motherwell are close to a new signing – and manager Stephen Robinson says it’s time for the players currently at Fir Park to achieve a much-needed victory.
The Well are in a tough run of form at present, their last Premiership win coming at Livingston on October 31. A first victory in seven will be the aim when they host Aberdeen on Wednesday night.

January is on the horizon and Robinson expects to be busy in the transfer window. He says that there’s one signing close to completion, the Motherwell manager hoping it sparks freshness into his squad.
“At some stage you have to hold your hands up and say some signings haven’t worked and try to rectify that, which we do every year,” Robinson said. “With the level of player we are bringing in, some work, some don’t work. Everyone will tell you the same, no matter how much money you spend.
“It’s Christmas now, some people might not have done what we expected and we need to either get more from them or change that. I have got one quite far down the line. We are braced if anyone comes in for one of our players as well.

“Sometimes one signing just sparks you and sparks other players who people have maybe criticised. So we are working on that and are prepared for all eventualities which when you are manager of Motherwell can happen.”
Robinson admits that signing players in the current predicament is hard, with some unwilling to relocate during the pandemic: “January is a difficult transfer window but we have been relatively successful.
“We have brought Gboly Ariyibi and Rolando Aarons in during that time. The problem we have speaking to players in England is that they don’t want to come up at the moment.

“They are going to be stuck in a hotel or in a flat on their own. So it is a bit more difficult. It’s the same bringing in boys from abroad, which isn’t something we often do. It’s a hard window.
“We have found it difficult to attract people in the circumstances. It’s hard enough at the best of times but this does make it harder.”
Robinson’s men have a chance to get back to winning ways against the Dons, a team they have beaten twice at Pittodrie in 2020. The Well boss isn’t fussed about how his team get that win.

“Football changes very, very quickly, once you get a result confidence changes,” he said. ” We have four games coming up between now and the start of the year and in all of them we’re capable of getting results, if we play to our ability, which we have done on many occasions, and you get a little turn of fortune, then things turn around very quickly.
“I don’t hide away from the fact that we’re desperate to get a win, and I’d take a scrappy one, instead of what we did against Hibs and St Mirren where we played well, created lots, and didn’t win.
“I’ll take a nice scrappy win and it just boosts you, changes the narrative that people put out there as we go into this run of games.”
