Nectar Triantis ‘loving life’ at Hibs as Sunderland loanee quizzed on future

Nectar Triantis is enjoying a new lease of life in the Hibs midfield as he relishes his loan spell.

A centre half to trade, many Hibees fans thought the Aussie looked better in midfield during his first stint at the club under Nick Montgomery last season.

He actually struggled at times at the back and when David Gray secured his return this season, it was with the intention of playing him in the middle of the park.

After the recent Premiership win over Motherwell, Triantis was one of two Hibs stars highlighted for their ‘absolutely fantastic’ role in the performance.

Gray was also full of praise for the Hibees loanee’s ‘composed’ display in the heart of midfield.

On a loan deal until the end of this season, after it was recently confirmed Sunderland couldn’t recall him this month, Triantis has been a key figure in the recent upturn in form.

He’s loving his football but has also been asked about his future.

Triantis on Hibs loan enjoyment

With most loanees, the aim would always be to go back to your parent club to make your mark, unless you already know you have no future there.

It would always make sense to make the most of your time at the loan club though, and that’s what the 21-year-old is doing.

He feels he is taking his game to another level at Easter Road as he discussed his move into the midfield.

Speaking to Sunderland official website, Triantis said: “I am loving every moment with Hibs. I think everyone can see that from my performances. My whole game is developing to a new level.

“I feel like a different player to last season. The biggest challenge has been overcoming adversity. I have had a lot of growing up to do but I am constantly working hard to continue this momentum.

“I have always been comfortable playing in midfield, but the switch has been really interesting. I can express myself with that freedom.

“When you are enjoying your football, you will play anywhere. The move has been everything I could have hoped for as I continue my development.”

Triantis highlights Sunderland’s aims

Given his recent form, Gray and Hibs fans would surely love to see Triantis with them beyond this season.

But he insists his aim will always be to go back to Sunderland and win a spot in their side, revealing his parent club are in constant contact.

“Sunderland are always checking in and giving me feedback,” he added. “They have been massively supportive with everything.

“I still talk to a lot of the lads. Especially Chris Rigg and Leo Hjelde. I’m not surprised to see them doing so well.

“When you have a group of players constantly gathering experience, eventually the young stars will shine. I have a lot of love for Sunderland.

“This is my club. The aim is to be a consistent feature in red and white one day, but for now, I’m focusing on my time with Hibs.”
