New Hibs boss Shaun Maloney promises to ‘excite and inspire’ Easter Road support

New Hibs boss Shaun Maloney will take the reins tonight for the first time after he was appointed as Jack Ross’ replacement in Leith – and the former Belgium assistant coach has sent a message to the Hibees fans ahead of his first game.

The Cabbage welcome Aberdeen to Leith in what could be one of the last games to take place in front of a big crowd in Scotland for a while, and the former Scotland star admits he faces a big challenge to turn things around but it is one he is excited to take on.

Maloney said it is his aim to work with the board and supporters to get the club where it should be as he promised to “excite and inspire” the Hibs fans with his brand of attacking football.

Since his appointment at the start of the week, Maloney has had to get to know his players quickly and the Hibees boss has certainly made big strides in trying to win over the Hibs fans ahead of his debut in the dugout.

Maloney already has his own staff in place after arriving at Easter Road with Gary Caldwell (Assistant Manager), Valerio Zuddas (First Team Coach and Conditioning) and Brian Doogan (Head of Technical Support) in tow as well as keeping existing coaches Craig Samson and David Gray around.

While there’s no better way to get going than three points, Maloney is certainly making all the right noises.

Hew Hibs boss Shaun Maloney’s open letter to the Hibees fans in full:

Thank you so much for welcoming me so warmly to the Football Club. I’m proud to be the Manager of an institution so rooted in values and traditions and I wanted to reach out to you, our fans, on a personal level prior to taking charge of the team for the first time at Easter Road.

The connection between the team and a fanbase as passionate as ours is integral to what I want to try to create alongside our Chairman and CEO. Our shared ambition is to excite and inspire you with attacking football and ultimately with a style which I believe is the best way to win.

All of this has to be a collaboration between the supporters, the Chairman and CEO, myself and the players, which is why I’m keen from the outset to create this direct relationship with you.

It’s challenging to arrive here at this stage in the season but it’s a great challenge to have and one I’m very motivated to take on. We won’t be able to change everything overnight but through hard work, our collective vision, and the talent I know that is already here we can begin the process of building the Club to where we all want it to be.

I’m very excited about working with the players we have here and with the younger players who can be part of our future. I believe we have a great foundation to start from and it’s about continuing to build on this going forward.

I’m really grateful to the Chairman and CEO for the support they have demonstrated in bringing me to the Club and I’m looking forward very much to cementing a close connection with you, our fans. Your passionate following of the team can be a really vital inspiring force.

My commitment to you is that I have taken on this challenge with all my energy and pride, and I believe that together we can create something really special, something that will truly inspire us all.

Thank you again for your support and I look forward to seeing you at Easter Road this evening.
