New Kilmarnock boss Tommy Wright begins his career as Rugby Park boss this evening with a home game against Motherwell.

It is Wright’s return to football after a successful time as St Johnstone boss, where he won the Scottish Cup in 2014. Now Wright is back in the game. He is hoping to guide his new side away from the relegation zone.

Wright disclosed what he wants to install in his new squad as he gets ready to take charge for the first time.

“Play good football”

“What Kilmarnock will get is a team that is organised. That wants to play good football, play high-tempo football, and that’s what wins football matches. And I want to get a winning mentality into the squad” he said.

“I know the league, I have worked in the league for nine years. And going forward I know what types of players do well in the league” Wright continued.

Will have help in key area

Wright is also pleased that unlike in his time at St Johnstone, he will have someone to help him when it comes to signing players. That is, head of football operations James Fowler.

“The added benefit is I have got James (Fowler) to help me with recruitment. Because recruitment at St Johnstone was solely down to me. There was no infrastructure for me to fall back on and have that support. So that’s going to be a good thing for me to relieve the pressure” Wright disclosed.

With Kilmarnock currently four points clear of bottom of the table Ross County, Wright will know that it is vital that his time at Rugby Park gets off to a good start this evening.
