Newcastle United have been linked with a move for Aberdeen striker Sam Cosgrove (Scottish Sun).

The Dons man has only returned from a knee injury that has kept him out of action for most of this season. But his previous Dons exploits have caught the eye of Newcastle United.

During the summer, Aberdeen accepted a bid of around £2.7 million from Ligue 2 side Guingamp for the striker, but Cosgrove turned the move to the north of France down.

Now Premier League interest is reported after the second tier of France came calling for Cosgrove. After a slow start to life at Pittodrie, the striker has now scored 45 goals in 94 Aberdeen appearances.

Scouting efforts north of the border have ramped up at Newcastle United, signing Mark Gillespie from Motherwell earlier this year and taking Reagan Thomson from Queen’s Park.

Steve Bruce’s Toon scouts are now reportedly working out whether they have liked what they have saw of Cosgrove before launching any bid. Newcastle are light on cover up top.

For Derek McInnes, he will be desperate to hold onto the marksman who has been so good for him since Cosgrove arrive in the Granite City in 2018.
