Nick Dasovic was a key man for St Johnstone in the team’s last run to the League Cup Final back in 1998. He scored in both the semi-final win over Hearts, and in the 2-1 cup final loss to Rangers.
He has sent a message to the current Saints side, as they stand on the verge of making this season’s Betfred Cup Final. Dasovic has told the players to make the most of their semi-final experience at Hampden Park. St Johnstone take on Hibernian in the cup semi-final tomorrow.
Opens up on regret
Dasovic has detailed that his one regret from his time in Perth was not playing at Hampden. The final in 1998 was played at Celtic Park. He hopes that the current side get a boost from playing at the national stadium.
“The senior players will look at this and think it might be their last chance of making a final” he said (Daily Record).
“Have no fear”
“It’s a moment they just have to cherish, enjoy it and have no fear. They have a chance to get the club to another cup final. But it won’t be easy, and they can’t get ahead of themselves” Dasovic continued.
Dasovic went on to state that he was disappointed he never got to play at Hampden Park.
“If I have one regret about my time in Scotland it’s that I never got to play at Hampden. It’s such a famous stadium. When we played Rangers in the final at Celtic Park we didn’t have any regrets, even though we lost” the former Saints man concluded.
