He knows him better than most, and that’s why the form John McGinn is in at Aston Villa isn’t surprising his brother John.
The youngest McGinn has been on fire for club and country this season, firing three goals in 12 games from midfield for Villa and netting six in his last three games for Scotland .
His brother Paul, who’s at John’s former club St Mirren with his other brother Stephen, says that his form is of no surprise to him.
He told the Gazette: “He can’t miss can he? When you are that form he can shoot anywhere and it would probably deflect into the net whereas we have a shot and it would deflect wide. He has momentum behind him.
“That advanced position suits him down to the ground, he is a clever footballer. People think he is this hustle and bustle player but he is very clever.
“He has the attributes and knows when to use his bum and when to stick that big head in. I’m not surprised he is getting among the goals.”
Advanced Aston Villa role is helping McGinn
Since being moved into a more advance role, McGinn has turned into a different player for both Aston Villa and Scotland.
He’s not just the aggressive engine in the middle now, McGinn’s scoring goals on a regular basis. He is changing games with both his defensive and offensive work.
Aston Villa are reaping the rewards of this and so are Scotland. Anything the central midfielder is touching right now is turning to gold, leading to fresh speculation over a move to Manchester United (ESPN).
His brother Paul certainly isn’t surprised by his form.
