Premiership friendly round-up part three

We’re back with a third installment of our Premiership friendly round-up series. With the Betfred Cup and European qualifiers now less than a week away, some teams are in the final stages of their pre-season routines.

Friendly matches were played up and down the country and beyond yesterday, with teams travelling by land, sea and air for their friendly matches.

Here’s our round-up of the weekend’s friendly results.

Aberdeen drew 1-1 with an impressive Inverness CT side at Borough Briggs in Elgin. A big positive for the Dons was that new striker Curtis Main opened his goalscoring account, while Jon Gallagher turned in a decent performance.

After a recent 3-2 defeat to Raith Rovers, Hamilton bounced back with a 3-1 victory over Albion Rovers at Cliftonhill.

Hearts took on left-back Bobby Burns’ old team Glenavon, but they were handed a disappointing 2-1 defeat. Sean Clare scored the Jambos’ solitary goal.

Youngster Josh Doig made his first Hibs appearance during Paul Heckingbottom’s side’s 3-1 victory over Dunfermline. The Pars initially took the lead, but an impressive second half seen the Hibees prevail.

Livingston played English League One outfit Tranmere Rovers in St Andrews. They came away with an impressive 2-1 victory.

Motherwell scored their 10th goal without reply in the space of a week, defeating English side Darlington 3-0. Chris Long got another goal, whilst Liam Donnelly and youngster Jamie Semple added the other two.

Ross County played Eredivisie side FC Groningen on Friday night. The Staggies gave a good account of themselves but ultimately lost 2-0.

St Johnstone played out an entertaining 4-2 win with Linfield in Belfast whilst St Mirren were beaten 2-0 by Peterborough United over in Spain.

With the competitive calendar almost ready for kick-off, teams will have to hope their pre-season work is enough to see them get off on the front foot when the action gets underway in less than a week’s time.
