Rangers’ cup double dream has been left in tatters by a St Johnstone side extraordinarily keeping their own silverware hopes alive with a 4-2 penalty shootout success.
After winning the League Cup in February, Saints have moved back to Hampden with a sensational Scottish Cup quarter-final win over Scottish Premiership champions Rangers. After taking the game all the way to extra-time at Ibrox, James Tavernier put Gers ahead with 126 minutes on the clock.

When it all looked done and dusted, Rangers allowed towering Saints goalkeeper Zander Clark space and time in their box, amazingly heading onto Chris Kane’s foot and into the net as penalties arrived. Tavernier and Kemar Roofe had penalties saved by Clark before Ali McCann’s shot from 12 yards sealed Saints heroics.
It’s another amazing chapter in one of St Johnstone’s best-ever seasons as they are the first Scottish team to leave an away game with Rangers this season with full reward. Goalkeeper Clark’s Rangers-supporting brother may be ‘disowning’ him, but Perth fans are thrilled with the result.
