Rangers will provide a huge test for Falkirk – but David McCracken says it’s one that his Bairns side are relishing.

The League One leaders host Rangers on Sunday evening in a glamour League Cup last 16 tie. It’s reward for McCracken and fellow co-boss Lee Miller following their side’s progression through the group stage.

A massive upset is needed if they are to stop a Rangers team currently undefeated in all competitions this term. Co-boss McCracken says it’s a game the club as a whole are excited about.

“It’s a massive game on Sunday, an opportunity to come up against a team that is the best in the country just now with the way they are playing,” said McCracken.

“It’s an opportunity for the boys to come up against a higher level of opponent. These are the games you want to play in. It’s a massive game, a break from the league. We are looking forward to it.

“We feel confident going into it. I learned early in my career that there’s no point thinking about not getting beat as eventually you do. We will do a lot of analysis on Rangers to see how we can stop their strengths.

“It’s important we try and do the right things like we do every other game. Just because it’s Rangers doesn’t mean we stop doing that but we understand they are playing at a level a lot of teams can’t cope with.”

Before this Rangers test, Falkirk played Dumbarton and won 3-0 in League One action. It put them top of the league and McCracken reckons it’s put pressure on their rivals.

“Over the course of the game we deserved to win,” said the co-boss of the Sons win. “We defended well when we needed to. But we are pleased to get another clean sheet and it was a massive game coming off the Cove Rangers game.

“It puts us in a position where other teams have to win now. We are delighted. There’s a lot of games to be won and loss and there’s no hiding that the title is the end goal this season. But we take it game by game.”
