Reading have reportedly disclosed just how much money Hibernian will need to pay if they want to sign Marc McNulty on a permanent basis.

The Championship side want £1 million for the striker, as reported by the Evening News. Interestingly, that is the same amount that Reading paid to Coventry City for the player a year ago.

The report goes on to reveal that ‘talks are ongoing’ between the clubs, to find a way to bring the player back to Easter Road.

It is unlikely that Hibs would be able to afford that kind of money on the player. Perhaps the best option is another loan deal.

McNulty was a star for the Easter Road side in his spell in Edinburgh last season. He scored eight goals in 17 games.

Thrived under head coach

There is no doubt that Paul Heckingbottom would love to bring McNulty back to Easter Road. The player thrived under the head coach.

However, for the moment, the Hibs head coach will have to plan for next season without McNulty in his plans.

Maybe the talks between the sides will lead to movement on the situation. That does not seem likely if they want £1 million though.

Even though McNulry has indicated that he would like to return to Hibs, as it stands unless something changes he won’t be back at Easter Road next season.
