Aberdeen may have dealt a blow in their plans for next season. The Daily Record is reporting that Rangers are planning to make a move for Derby’s Max Lowe, who has been superb on-loan for the Dons this season.

The report claims that both Steven Gerrard and Dons boss Derek McInnes have spoken to Derby boss Frank Lampard about taking the player on loan next season.

Most consistent performers

It would be a blow for the Dons if Rangers won the race to sign the player for next season. Lowe has been one of Aberdeen’s most consistent performers this season, making 41 appearances for the side.

Recently he revealed that he was keen on returning to Pittodrie for another loan spell next season.

However, that may not come to pass if Frank Lampard decides that the player would benefit more from a spell at Ibrox.

Swing move in Aberdeen’s favour

The one thing that might swing the deal in Aberdeen’s favour is that Lowe has already established himself in the Dons side.

There is no guarantee that he will play as many games if he goes to Ibrox, Rangers do have a bigger squad after all.

However, Lampard may feel that playing with a higher quality of players may benefit Lowe in the long term.

Only time will tell where Lowe plays next season, but Aberdeen will be really disappointed if he doesn’t return to Pittodrie.
