Robbie Crawford happy to sort Fir Park future as he aims to help Motherwell out ‘false position’

He knew it was never going to be long-term – but Robbie Crawford says he’s happy all the same to get his Motherwell future sorted.

The midfielder has made 11 appearances for the Steelmen since arriving on loan from Livingston prior to the Well’s away trips in the Europa League. Livi terminated his contract on Deadline Day to allow him to sign permanently at Fir Park, Graham Alexander signing him up after Crawford was initially brought to Motherwell by Stephen Robinson.

He’ll now be in Lanarkshire until the end of the season and Crawford says he didn’t pay much attention to a manager change at his parent club: “I was glad to get it over the line. There had been talks for the last week or so, so I’m happy to get it sorted and happy to stay here.

“I didn’t get caught up in the Deadline Day drama, I was home on the couching watching it all on the TV!  I wasn’t sure what would happen, with the new manager coming in, but I was glad to get it sorted and that he wanted me to stay.

“It’s just until the end of the season. He’s probably not seen me much so he’s not really going to dish out a big, long deal, but it’s up to me to work hard until the end of the season and see what happens.

“To be fair I never took much notice (of manager change at Livingston) so it’s been alright. As soon as the offer came in to go to Motherwell I was keen on coming and trying to earn a contract, and I’ve done that now, so hopefully I can just kick on.”

The Well sit 10th at present ahead of tonight’s match with Dundee United after a win over Ross County. Fighting for Premiership survival, Crawford doesn’t believe it’s a reflection of how much talent is in the Fir Park dressing room.

He said: “It has been good this week. It was a big win against Ross County, especially to come from behind because we hadn’t done that all season, so it was good to get that and to get the win. We go into every game looking to win, this is a big game again against Dundee United, and we hope to take the momentum from last week and to kick on.

“It’s important to climb the table. We’ve been up the way, so we want to climb the table and finish as high up as we can. I think we are in a false position but at the end of the day the table doesn’t lie. We’ve not been getting the results, but we have a good team in there so we need to kick on and get the wins.”
