Ross County boss John Hughes has disclosed that it is all about results and not about the style of football you play as he aims to get his team out of the relegation zone.

As it stands, County are currently bottom of the Premiership, a point behind Hamilton and Kilmarnock. Ahead of tomorrow’s game against Celtic, Hughes has declared that playing ‘pretty’ football is for another day, now it is all about getting results.

“About picking up results”

“All that pretty football stuff is now for another day, it’s all about picking up results, you can do it playing some nice football, but we have to be harder to beat, we have to start keeping clean sheets” he said.

Hughes admits that there is a difficult balance to strike in trying to win games, and making sure that you don’t concede goals. That is likely why he is so keen to keep clean sheets.

“Leave yourself vulnerable”

“If you want to win a game you have to go and have a go, and if you have a go, you always leave yourself vulnerable at the back.

“It’s been like that, even before I came. There’s a lot of work to be done but everything we do needs to be done on the back of clean sheets.”

Hughes will be taking on Celtic for the second time as Ross County manager. Back in December County lost 2-0 at Celtic Park. Neil Lennon’s side seem to getting into a run of form, so Hughes will need to have his County side at their best if they are to pick up any points. No doubt that is why he is keen to keep a clean sheet.
