Ross County co-boss Steven Ferguson has expressed his delight over Chelsea loanee Nathan Baxter and his return from injury.

The Blues stopper joined the Staggies in the summer but injury has prevented him from making many appearances so far.

He’s on the mend now though and Ferguson couldn’t be happier about it.

“To have Nathan back up to give us that competition for places in the goalkeeping position is ultimately why we brought him to the club,” Ferguson told the Daily Record (page 71, 22/11/19).

“Unfortunately we have had to wait since July to get that competition, but it’s there now.”

Chelsea man Baxter will be eager to get Ross County career going

Ferguson and Stuart Kettlewell started the youngster away to St Mirren, his first start of the season and his first senior appearance in County colours. That appearance didn’t have a happy ending though.

St Mirren ran out 2-1 winners courtesy of a late strike from Sam Foley. It meant that the Staggies dropped into the bottom six after Hibs beat Motherwell 3-1.

For Baxter though, he’ll be happy to finally be playing for County after his summer switch.
