Aberdeen midfielder Ross McCrorie is hoping to emulate Scotland’s Serbia heroes this week as the Rangers loanee heads to Greece.

The versatile Scotland U21s international has been in fine form this season. He is currently on loan at Aberdeen from Rangers, Derek McInnes reaping the rewards of his services.

Now the Rangers loanee will lead the Scotland youth side out away to Greece on Tuesday as they target major tournament qualification. Victory in Athens would seal a place at the Euro U21s competition next year.

It would be a first since 1996, which would be another boost for the nation after Scotland’s senior side qualified for a major tournament for the first time since 1998 last week. McCrorie is aiming for Greek greatness.

“I think their qualification could be game changing for the country and now it’s up to the 21s to do the same,” said McCrorie (SFA). “If we can do it, it would just go to show the quality that is coming through. We know what we need to do on Tuesday and it’s a huge game for us.

“A lot of the players, myself included, are in their last year of the 21s and there is a lot of guys in the squad who have played more than 100 times for our clubs. That just goes to show you the quality we have in our team as well as experience even though we’re still young.

“We’re all good mates and it would mean so much for us to qualify for the Euros next year.”
