Jack Ross has praised Lithuanian Hibs midfielder Vykintas Slivka as the Hibees boss weighs up a contract extension for the battler.
Slivka arrived at Easter Road from Juventus in 2017. Since then, he’s gone on to make himself a pretty solid player, featuring 77 times in Leith.
Ross says that the winter break will provide a nice break for him to mull things over and that Slivka’s situation is one thing he is aware of.
He told Capital City Press: “Things like that have been brought to my attention. We’ve got such a busy schedule. I’ve given it thought but it’s not been at the forefront of my mind.
“We’ll address it properly in the coming weeks – we have a nice hiatus with the winter break. He’s been good for me so far, Vicky’s been one who’s done well.
“Whether he’s started games or come off the bench, he’s made a positive impact and I’ve enjoyed working with him in training.”
Free to speak to other clubs
If Ross does want to get the midfielder tied up, he’ll need to act quickly. Come next month, if nothing is sorted, Slivka will be free to speak to other clubs.
An industrious midfielder, the Lithuanian has been a good servant for Hibs since his arrival from Italy. If he manages to get into the starting XI regularly after Christmas, he could break 100 Hibees appearances this term.
It’ll be an issue that will be dealt with after the festive period. Ross’ sole focus will be taking as many points from a busy run of fixtures that could propel Hibs up the table.
Before the winter shutdown, they’ll face Hibs, Hearts at Tynecastle and Livingston in West Lothian. It’s three fixtures Hibs will look to take points from as the Ross renaissance continues.
