Former Aberdeen coach Sandy Clark has admitted that he’s amazed the Dons let Scott Bain leave Pittordrie- and couldn’t believe it when he watched history repeat itself at Dundee.

Clark worked with Bain at Pittodrie under Jimmy Calderwood and coached Bain as a youngster before he was let go by Craig Brown.

Clark admitted there must have been a reason he was let go as he pulled back from having a “dig” at Brown over his decision.

“It just amazes me that Aberdeen later let him go,” Clark told The Scotsman.

I don’t want to have a dig at Craig Brown but he let him go for some reason and then to see him let go by Dundee as well, I couldn’t believe that. I’m delighted for him to see where is now, having known him when he was just a kid.”

Bain has since landed at Celtic with Brown enjoying retirement from the dugout.

The keeper has forced his way into Steve Clarke’s Scotland plans and is in the squad for next month’s Euro 2020 qualifiers with Cyprus and Belgium.

Clark is currently assistant manager to Allan Johnston at Queen of the South and narrowly avoided relegation from the Championship with a playoff win over Montrose.
