Scotland’s remarkable undefeated run came to an end on Sunday – but Arsenal star Kieran Tierney was still able to perform a shining role.
The Arsenal defender has played mostly as a left-sided centre-back in Steve Clarke’s 3-5-2 formation. But against Slovakia, he returned to a more natural left-wing-back role.

It was something he was given the opportunity to do after captain Andy Robertson missed the game, his injury status confirmed after manager Steve Clarke said the Liverpool man was a doubt for the game.
Tierney was an able deputy, shining in defence but also providing attacking impetus with runs from deep, putting plenty of balls on a silver platter for the forward line.
None were converted as Scotland lost 1-0, A Jan Gregus strike settling things in this Nations League clash. It’s a first defeat in over a year, stretching back nine games.

Arsenal ace Tierney was still highly-praised by the Tartan Army after a standout display.
