It was another dismal day in the league for Arsenal – but Scotland’s Kieran Tierney was one of the few to escape their latest defeat with credit.

Arsenal lost 2-0 to Tottenham in the North London derby as they slipped to 15th in the table, not the position a club as huge as the Gunners want to be anywhere near.

Heung Min-Son and Harry Kane struck in the first half as Spurs achieved a comfortable victory.

While Arsenal haven’t been great this season, Tierney has managed to earn plaudits as he enjoys a personally decent run of form. Against Tottenham he was energetic and a threat in his usual left-back slot.

More often than not this season, Tierney has played at left centre-back in a 3-5-2 formation. He’s been decent there too, but his form at left-back was again able to showcase his world-class potential.

But with his club in 15th, a lot more than Tierney’s good form is needed to lift Arsenal up the table again.

For Scotland it is a positive to see one of the national team’s stars thriving at the top level and the top teams ahead of Euro 2020 next summer. But Tierney will want performances as a team to improve.

Regardless, fans have been left pleased with his contribution as an individual.
