Scott McTominay says he’s enjoying the transition from Manchester United midfielder to Scotland centre-back.
The Manchester United battler was brilliant again on Thursday night as he helped Scotland to a first major tournament since 1998 with Euro 2020 qualification.

Whilst he lost his man for the goal that took Serbia Scotland to 120 minutes after a 1-1 draw, McTominay stepped up to take a pressure penalty that helped seal a 5-4 shootout victory.
Again in this match McTominay thrived at centre-back, turning in a solid shift as he continues to blossom in the 3-5-2 system.
Red Devils boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has watched his centre-backs struggle at domestic level this season. Scotland’s stand-in man has proven himself competent in this role and able to perform defensively at the highest level.

McTominay has explained how he’s finding centre-back life: “Before, whenever the manager of Scotland asked me if it was a role I was comfortable with, I was like: ‘Of course’. Whatever the manager asks you to do, you do.
“But I could not remember the last time I played there, which I said to him, but it’s a different role I’m enjoying.”
Scotland return to action on Sunday afternoon against Slovakia in Nations League action. It will be no surprise to see the Manchester United midfielder start in defence once again.
