David Vanecek’s hellish spell at Hearts is finally over. His deal in Gorgie has ended a year early, the club have confirmed.

In all the Czech Republic native played seven times, scoring zero. The now ex-Jambo was truly horrific during his spell in Gorgie.

After hyping himself up on social media to seemingly no end, it’s came back to bite him. Vanecek couldn’t back up what his highlight reel seemed to indicate, that he was a decent footballer.

Some Hearts fans have reacted to the news.

Recruitment has to be looked at after Vanecek’s failure

What did anyone at Hearts actually see in Vanecek? Did anyone watch him before his Tynecastle arrival? Or was it just the YouTube video the striker has attached to his Instagram?

He turned up unfit and just didn’t look interested. Over his cameo sub appearances, Vanecek never gave the impression that he played football for a living.

Vanecek’s time at Tynecastle was a misery and much of it was self-inflicted. However, the recruitment at Hearts has to be looked at.

They brought in striker Craig Wighton for a reported £250,000 last year. He scored zero in his debut season.

Players like Olly Lee, Colin Doyle and Conor Shaughnessy were brought in last year. Many of them were far too similar, in that they were completely bang average.

Of the 18 that Craig Levein brought to Tynecastle last season, only a few done well overall . The likes of Uche Ikpeazu and Peter Haring were pretty solid when out on the park. Everyone else, overall, was average.

Vanecek’s move to Hearts is a transfer both player and club will want to forget about quickly.
