According to Italian website Cittaceleste, Lazio are looking for a big number nine, and of all the strikers in the world, Aberdeen frontman Sam Cosgrove has reportedly made his way onto their shortlist.

Cosgrove has been in super form as of late, scoring nine goals in his first eight games this term. With a contract keeping him at Pittodrie until 2022, the Dons are in a position to demand a big fee for him.

It’s still a mental rumour. To hear Cosgrove’s name mentioned in the same breath as the Italian giants is hilarious.

Some Aberdeen fans have reacted to the reports linking Cosgrove to Lazio.

Aberdeen hitman Cosgrove to Lazio is as ridiculous as they come

The Daily Mail have reported that Lazio want to sign Tottenham striker Fernando Llorente. The fact that they reportedly want Cosgrove to move to Italy along with the Spaniard sounds utterly bonkers.

Not even Cosgrove’s family could convince you that the 22-year-old has merited a move to the Italian giants.

He has been brilliant for the Dons recently though and it’s a credit to him reports like this are even popping up.

Just last year he arrived in Aberdeen on a free transfer, with just one professional goal to his name. Now he has been linked with one of the biggest clubs in Serie A. It’s quite astonishing.

Will this happen? Probably not, but at least this rumour has already secured its place in the Scottish football transfer rumours hall of fame.
