Aston Villa fans had reason to celebrate on Saturday afternoon, when they pulled off a 1-0 win over Midlands rivals Wolves.
The man who scored the winning goal in the 94th minute was Anwar El-Ghazi, and he deserves credit for that. However, what shouldn’t be overlooked is the part played by Scotland international John McGinn.
Determined play won penalty
He won the penalty with a great bit of determined play, as he drove into the penalty box and was fouled by Nelson Semedo. He seemed to nutmeg the player as he attempted to take the ball round Semedo who was forced into the challenge as McGinn looked to potentially have a shot on goal.

It was excellent play by the 26-year-old, who was determined to keep Villa on the attack even when the game was coming to an end.
He wasn’t satisfied, he wanted to win, and that is the mark of a good player. It is little wonder that the player is a regular for both Scotland and Aston Villa with that kind of determination and attitude. Indeed, it looks as if the player will be a mainstay with the Birmingham side for years to come, as he recently signed a contract to stay at the club until 2025.
Some fans were delighted with player’s contribution
Unsurprisingly, some Aston Villa fans on social media in the aftermath of the game were delighted with McGinn’s last-minute heroics.

One fan described the player as ‘immense’. Another described the player as ‘class’. Here are some of the best reactions from Aston Villa fans on Twitter to McGinn’s performance.
