Hearts stayed clear at the top of the Championship thanks to a hard-fought 1-0 win over Ayr United on Friday night. The only goal of the game came from Liam Boyce’s penalty early in the second-half.
The game was played in dreadful conditions, so manager Robbie Neilson and his players will have been delighted to get the job done, and move 12 points clear at the top of the table.
Made first start in second-half
One of the more interesting parts of the game came in the second-half, when Neilson introduced Hearts’ two deadline day signings as substitutes. Both Gervane Kastaneer, who has signed on loan from Coventry, and permanent signing Aaron McEneff were introduced in the 66th minute of the game.

It wasn’t the easiest circumstances for either player to make their debut because of the conditions at Somerset Park. However, both players did their bit to ensure that Hearts picked up the win.
Some Hearts fans on social media were particularly impressed with McEneff. The midfielder joined the club from Shamrock Rovers in a two and a half year deal. The 25-year-old impressed some fans as he moved between penalty boxes.
Manager would have been impressed
One fan went as far as to suggest that McEneff is the type of player that Hearts have been looking for, for years. No doubt manager Robbie Neilson would have been impressed with how his deadline day duo fared.
It will be interesting to see if either player gets the nod to start Hearts’ next game, against Queen of the South next week.

In the meantime, here are some of the best reactions from Twitter to McEneff’s Hearts debut:
