Hibernian recorded a 2-0 win over Dundee United at Tannadice this afternoon, as they bounced back from the narrow midweek loss to Rangers.

A player who didn’t get on the scoresheet, but who was very influential in the game was Hibernian midfielder Jackson Irvine.

The 27-year-old, who recently joined the Easter Road side until the end of the season, played a key role in both of Hibernian’s goals.

Great pass for second goal

For the first goal his cut-back was hammered home by Darren McGregor. His part in the second was even better, as he held off a challenge and his lovely through ball was finished in style by Martin Boyle.

Irvine’s performance was excellent, and he is already a key player for Hibernian in the middle of the park. Jack Ross will be hoping that he can persuade the player to commit his long-term future to the club.

If he can do that, then Irvine could be very influential over an entire season. However, at the moment Irvine is due to leave at the end of the season. More performances like the one against Dundee United are sure to alert clubs to the player’s potential availability.

Some fans hope for long-term deal

Some Hibernian fans on social media were very impressed with Irvine’s performance. One fan pleaded with the club to get the player on a long-term contract. Another feared that it could be difficult to get the player to agree to a long-term deal.

It remains to be seen what will happen with Irvine’s future. However, for the moment he is running the show for Hibernian in the middle of the park.
