Some Hibernian fans react as Leeann Dempster leaves club after six years

One of the biggest news stories in Scottish football on Thursday was the announcement on the Hibernian website that chief executive Leeann Dempster confirmed that she was leaving the Easter Road club after six years.

The news of the departure comes at an interesting time in Scottish football, as clubs deal with the ongoing fall-out from the pandemic which is affecting the game.

Dempster has decided that it is time to move on from Easter Road though, and she can look back on a job well done at the club.

Not long after Dempster joined Hibernian the club were relegated, but aside from that the club enjoyed great success under her watch.

Club is re-established in Premiership

The team are now firmly re-established as a Scottish Premiership outfit after a few seasons in the Championship. Dempster also made some successful managerial appointments, such as Alan Stubbs, Neil Lennon and current manager Jack Ross.

However, what Dempster’s time at the club will most be remembered for is Hibernian’s legendary Scottish Cup win in 2016.

After more than 100 years of waiting, Hibernian’s Scottish Cup jinx finally came to an end as the defeated Rangers 3-2 in an enthralling final.

Dempster will always be looked on fondly by Hibernian fans for the role she played in that success. It is also notable that on Hibernian’s website owner Ron Gordon admitted that he would have liked Dempster to stay at the club. However, she decided to move on and now Hibernian must do the same.
